What your child needs

Your child needs:

• A compatible iPhone.
• An Apple ID.
• iMessage enabled.
• Wi-Fi or cellular data.
• Contacts who can receive iMessage.

They do not need a traditional phone number for iMessage itself.

How to set it up

1. Create or sign in to your child's Apple ID.
2. Open Settings → Messages.
3. Turn on iMessage.
4. Open Send & Receive.
5. Choose the Apple ID email address for sending and receiving.

If you use Family Sharing, the child account can be managed by the parent.

What works

With iMessage enabled, your child can:
