Which plan it supports
Standard is single-network coverage; Max Coverage is the broader multi-network option (see pricing for the difference). Based on iPhone XS’s cellular bands (model A1920/A1921):
- Works with Standard
- Works with Max Coverage
Bands verified against https://support.apple.com/en-us/111881 on 2026-08-16. This confirms hardware capability, not whether a specific unit is unlocked or blacklisted — always confirm with your carrier’s own IMEI compatibility check before buying a plan.
Software support
iPhone XS is capped at iOS 18 (confirmed 2026-08-16) — the manufacturer has moved on to newer OS versions for other devices.
Still receives security-only patches on iOS 18 (e.g. iOS 18.7.9, released 2026-05-11) even though it will not receive iOS 26 or later.
Before you buy
Confirm the device has an EID and can add a downloadable eSIM before purchasing a plan. That’s the surest sign it accepts one.
